Sport on the Island
Lanzarote has become well known for the annual IRONMAN competition, which is considered to be one of the most gruelling in the world. Held in the month of May, it attracts about 1000 participants who have to endure a 3.8 Km ocean swim, a 180 Km cycle race over mountainous terrain and a 42.2 Km run. Competitors have 17 hours to complete the competition.
Cycling is a great way to keep fit and explore the beauty of the island. For those who do not want to pack their bike, it is easy to hire one locally. A great range of bikes is available including professional carbon road bikes.
Personal surfing lessons can be organised. Guests will be picked up at the villa in the morning and taken to the famous Famara Beach for the day, the perfect beach for surfing. Lessons cater for all levels of experience, in the capable hands of our friend and great teacher Paul. Check out his excellent reviews on Trip Advisor under Lava Flow Surf School.
The modern 18 hole Puerto del Carmen Golf Course, which opened in 2008, can be seen from the Miramar Suite at Secret Chill. The golf course is only a 5 minute drive away and open all year round as Lanzarote is blessed with a sunny climate. www.lanzarotegolfresort.com
